M. H. Hatch published 10 papers on New World Nicrophorus between 1925 and 1948. Within these he published many new names, mostly as aberrations, which, being infrasubspecific, have no status under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (4th ed. Art. 45.5). Almost all of Hatch's types are now in the Smithsonian in Washington D. C. (NMNH) although at least 12 of these are missing. The NMNH has no paratypes of these names, only single specimens, usually the holotype. Because these aberrations represent variation within species I thought it might be valuable, or at least interesting, to present here dorsal habitus shots of all of Hatch's aberration types in the NMNH.
