Tiger beetles represent a disproportionate number of the invertebrates on USFWS and New England state lists of rare and endangered taxa--50% of Connecticut's cicindeline fauna were listed as of 1998. Efforts to improve our knowledge of Connecticut Cicindela species have resulted in disparate data-capture efforts in Connecticut. The data presented below represent a synopsis of previous efforts, databased museum-label data from numerous public and private collections, and from field surveys conducted during 1996-1999. The Connecticut Chapter of The Nature Conservancy through a grant to Derek S. Sikes from the H. Allen Mali Research Fund and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection supported this research.

I welcome any comments or suggestions.

Note: I thank all those who have used this site and contributed comments over the past few years. I have made modifications to the site which I hope will make it easier to use. Seven of Connecticut's 14 species of tiger beetles are on the state list of protected species, I have removed detailed locality data from this website for the 5 of these 7 species that are extant in Connecticut.
